CONSTRUCTION OF RAILWAYS.
I Sir Julius Vo&EL,in an interview with a reporter of the Auckland Herald spoke m the following significant terms: — "I think I may say the following broad principles have the approval of the Cabinet, and the deduction from them is obvious : — (a). That railways when once commenced should, for economy's sake, be promptly constructed ; (b), That it is most undesiiv able that there should be doubt and uncertainty from year to year as to the works to be proceeded with, (c). That the. time of depression, wLen material is cheap', isa,desir- < able : period for proceeding with railways, (d). ! That railways should' be fixed, and that amounts authorised ;to .be borrowed for them shoulc "not be alienabledfof other purposes, (c). That the proportion of the borrowed money used for purposes other, than railways, arid directly : reproductiveworks slmld be much', less than hitherto has been the case. ,
