';' Auckland, .Friday. } Proceedings have been instituted by Robert Fawcett, station overseer, residing m Waikato, for a divorce from his wife Elizabeth Fawcett, nee Elizabeth Mercer, . on the ground.of alleged adultery .with Wi E. Downing, livery stablekeeper at Waipawa, Hawke's Bay. This morning Mr justice Gillies fixed the hearing of the action to take place before him without a jury during the April civil session.^ The adultery is said to haye been committed, towards the end of last year. The respondent and co-respon-' dent are further alleged to be now living as man and wife. at Waioawa. Neither entered an appearance m the matter althougn duly cited. , . , Napier, Friday. j The Loan and Metcantile Agency Company catalogued 900 bales for their auction sale to-day, and disposed of 840 bales. (The highest ; price realised for greasy crossbred was B§d. j Chbistohueoh, Friday;^ The old municipal buildings, m which '.the City Council have met for the past 25 yearp, were sold by auction to-day, preparatory to their demolition to make room for the new offices. The sum realised was £57 12s 6d. The case of Harvey y. Friedlander, which has occupied the Supreme Court 'lot. the past three days, was concluded this evening, when a verdict for plaintiff for;£so-was -returned. The action was' for libel containedin a letter sent to the agent of the London, Livemool, and Globe Insurance Company, alleging an, attempt at, imposition m respect of . payment of l insurance on 400 sacks of oats, £600 damages being claimed.
