Chribtchuroh, Tuesday. A meeting of citizens was convened by the Mayor to-day to take measures for the relief of the sufferers of the Taranaki fires. No action was taken m consequence of the information telegraphed from New Plymouth to the effect that the amount already subscribed was sufficient. The Mayor expressed the opinion that if it was found that substantial help were yet ' required Christchurch would be prepared to lend a helping hand, '
