Yesterday morning a seven-joomed house at Spreyton, owned and occupied by Henry Tape, was burned down. *The house and furniture were insured for £300 m the London, Liverpool, and Globe Office. The cause of the fire is unknown. The occupants were" awakened by the smoke about 2 a.m. This morning a youn? man. named J. Tucker, a plumber, fell from the upper floor of a new building at Morton's Block, and' sustained a compound fracture ot the right leg, and a fracture of the thigh. This morning a party — consisting of his Worship the Mayor, Mr Martin (town clerk), the Hon A. de Bathe Brandon (M.L.C.). Mr E. Pearce (chairman of the Harbour Board), and Captain Halliday (Harbour master)— went off m the Harbour Board's boat to the Nelson to welcome the Admiral. The Mayor formerly invited him to tho ball to be given to him and his officers by the citizens on Thursday, and the invitation was accepted. It is understood the Admiral will be entertained at a ball by the members of the Welliugton Club on Wednesday next. It is not yet kuowu how loug the Nelson will remain m port, but it will probably be about ten days. The Admiral has expressed a wish that no salute should be fired, and he does not wish for a' guard of honour when he lands. It is stated that H.M.S. Nelson will not visit any of the South-' crn ports, bat it is expected that Admiral Tyron, His Eacelleney the Governor, and Sir George Whitmore will proceed South m the Hinemoa on a visit of inspection to the Southern fortifications. An inquest on the late fire on Lambton Quay commenced to-day, but, as Mr Myers (m whose shop it is alleged the fire broke out) was absent, it was adjourned for a week. H.M.S. Nelson arrived m the harbour from Auckland between two and three o'clock this afternoon. Colonel Whitmore returned from Napier this morning. by the Manapouri, and will, it is understood, accompany Admiral Tyron when tbe Nelson visits Lyttelton. •„.... • The steamer Wairarapa_ having effected repairs to her piston rod, sailed for Napier and Auckland at noon to-day.

Tuesday. . The barque Loch Bredan 109 days from Liverpool arrived this morning. The Admiral has accepted an invitation to attend the ball. Eev. Mr Still has asked the ladies of his congregation to provide clothing for families that have been burnt out at Stratford.
