Previous to the commencement of business at the Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday morning a Mr Thomas Johnson addressed the Bench. He was he said, one of the Coptic's men who were sentenced to imprisonment some time ago for refusing to go to sea. There were 20 of them, and, wishing to appeal," they subscribed £1 each, and paid it to Mr Shaw for that purpose. Mr Shaw told them that the case was to come on on the 17th of August last, but it did not come on. Then he promised to bring it on at a later date ;;. and, not having consulted ,a, solicitor ttiey found that nothing had been done m the matter. Mr ; Wardell, said whatever was done was after the 'matter had beeu dealt with by that Court. Any subsequent action must be taken m the Supreme Court, to which Mr Johnson should make his application. Mr Johnson expressed his intention to do this, and retired. — Wellington paper.
