THE GERMANS PULL DOWN THE KING'S FLAG." SAMOAN CHIEFS ASKING FOR BRITISH AID. (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION ) Auckland. Friday. News from Samoa by mail steamer is to the effect that the Germans are supporting the rebels against King Malietba. TheKing hoisted hig flag at Apiea ; the German Consul ordered him to take, it down ; he refused, and the Germans landed from the Albatross warship, and pulled the flag down despite the protest \ of the British and American Consuls.: Two native chiefs have come to Auckland to ask for intervention, and that! a British man-of-war be sent to protect I British and American interests. The I party from Auckland, representing Mr Cornwall's claims, who went to take possession of McArthur's lands, were resisted by the natives and failed. , Saturday.' The two Sainoan, natives, Upolu and Lenmanu, are armed by Malieto^ with letters for the Governor? and Attorney. General, which they intend to present at Wellington, re the recent German aggression, and applying for British protection. The Auckland-Sam oan syndicate failed to enforce Cornwall's claim to certain lands m possession of Mr-Arthur and Co. ; they were met on the ground by an armed force. It is said that a writ for £21,000 damages has been served 'on McArthur & Co., the case to be heard either at Samoa or the High Commissioner's Court, Fiji. •
