MR FREEMAN R. JACKSON'S FORTNIGHTLY STOCK REPORT.

Wanganui, Wednesday. The yards have been well filled with" cattle during the fortnight. Prices have receded somewhat, but this will not oause surprise on account of the con- ! tinued dry weather. The market for ' sheep is very low, and it is doubtful if it ' has reached its lowest point. The rate now offered is accounted for b}- the extremely unsatisfactory price of tallow. I that later on m the season prices for young cattle will rally, but for old ewes the "pofc"ig the only outlet. At St. Hill-street a large entry of first-class cattle came forward. I placed about two-thirds qf them at the quotations be,lqw. Only a limited number of sheep were yarded, which sold at prices m favor of the buyers. No stores were offered. The market for pigs was dull at low values. I sold a larg-e number of horses on Saturday, the 12th, at fairly satisfactory rates, and about the usual number were disposed of Poultry of all sorts meet a good market, a large quantity being sold on Saturday. There, will be no sale next Saturday. Cattle. — Fat cows (good quality), £\ to £4 10s ; 3-yr-old bullocks* M 16s ; steers,, £3 5s to £3 lf|s \ empty cp\vs, £2 6s to £2 17s 6d ; cqwjs and calves (good. i quality), £§ 3-s } yearling steers, 3Qs to 325 ; weaners a.nd. heifers, 2XW to 275 ; old ! Horses. — Heavy staunch young draughts, £20 to £28 ; unbroken 3-year-olds, £11 to £153 ; good hacks, £10 to £17; inferior hacks, £4 to £6; weeds and screws, 28s to 455. Poultry.— Fowls, 2s 9d to 3s 6d the couple ; ducks, 3s to 4s 6d ; geese, 3s 6d to 5s each ; turkeys. 6s to 8s each^
