A long ik:batt: ensued, m the course of which Mr Stevens moved, as an amendment, seconded by Mr Hanson, That a select committee be appointed, consisting of Messrs Ross, Baker, and Pry, for the purpose of making the fullest possible inquiry by taking the evidence of the Foxton committee, the school inspector, and all other persons they may deem necessary, and report the result of such inquiry at the next meeting of the board. The discussion was further contin jed, with the result that the atneudmeut waa carried, the votes being — for, Mwssi'fl Sa»Bou, Bridge, Stuvcns, and Ross ; against, Messrs Baker, Fry, and ! the Chairman. The Examinations. — The Inspector presented a return showing the percentage obtained m tho several schools examined. Ho said that the schools were m a much better state than last year,tho majority having done vfcry well m the examinations. The following is a summary of results : — IOO per cent, m 2 schools ; 90 but not 100 per cent, m 5 schools ; 80 but not 90 per cent, m II schools ; 70 but not 80 per cent, m 14 Schools ; 60 but not 70 per cent, iv 8 schools :50 but not GO per cent, m 8 schools ; 40 but not 50 per cunt, m 7 schools ;30 but not 40 per cent, m 3 schools ;20 but not 30 pur cent, iv 1 school ; below 10 per cent m 2 schools. The percentage is based on the numbers examined,- omitting those not present half tUe nnmber of times the schools were opened. License to teach. — Application from Mm, Body for a license to. teach. — Granted. " ' Jackdytown.— -Application for gravel. • — Declined. Palmerston North.— Application to have forms altered. — Referred to build.in£ committee. - Mangaoue.— Letter asking for the completion of school buildiug and erection of porch. — Declined. Pahnereton.-r-Letter from Palmerston asking for assistance iv erecting a f euue. —Declined.
