Stoney Creek.
The Christmas breaking- up took placa on Wednesday, and wn a very pleasaut 1 gathering. In the afternoon there were »ports for the juveniles, and m the erea* ing ten, singing, recitations, &c. A pleasant feature m the proceedings wag the presentation to Mr Honors, the late schoolmaster, of an address, of which the following is a copy. By your uniforta kindness and emu.tt-sy m pursuing ■ the work, of your profession you had evidently secured both tile respect and affection, not only of the pupils under your charge but also of the parents, which has m a great measure, contributed towards the very good results attained m this school ;and- wt take this opportunity of assuring you that, you | carry with you to Halcombe, your' new and larger sphere of usefulness, the best wishes of the committee aa well as of the parents and children of the Stoney Creek district, for the future welfare of yourself and Mrs Honore and family. Mr Honore replied and expressed hia appreciation of the good feeling exhibit* ed towards him. He had much regretted leaving Stoney Creekj from tha residents of which he bad received man/ acts of kindness. He urged the children to be studious, attentive, and persever* ing- ' The pupil teacher, Miss Roberts, ww also presented with a lady's hand-bag as a token of recognition of her solicitude for the progress of the children. Sinclair George, Thomas McKenzie, Alice Peck, Mary Knott, Thomas Car* anagh, Chriltina Thompson. 3rd Standard :—Lachlan McKenzie, Amy Armstrong, Humboldt John, Din* Nilssen, George Bawn. 2nd Standard .:— Amy Anderson, Gilbert Hall, Robert Hastings, Gk Gardes, i Catherine Irving, Martha Schobeleski, Herbert Hall, Lars Larsen, Msggi* Cavaoagh, Joseph Schoblcski, Fred Byers, Mark Gedge, Annie Dambler. Ist Standard :— Maggie Hastings, Clara Ni'ssen, Phillip Lewis, Matthew Farfita, James George, David Hastings, John Peck, Eliza Peck, Mary Setter, ; Bertha John, Arthur Gardes, William Irving, Miua Anderson, Edith Hall, Myra Tiller, Emma Berg, Annie John, William Gedge, Minnie Knott, Fred Peck, Louisa Byers, Eliza Parr. The present teacher, Mr Ligertwood, had offered special prizes for mapping. Th« Ist prize was awarded to Barbara McKenzie, and 2nd to Mary Madden. Various small prizes were given to the other children attending, who- had not passed any of the standards. i Mr Hooore expressed his intention of next year giving a prize of the value of 10s to the highest pass m the sth standard, and 7/6 to highest m 4th. the daypassed most pleasantly to all present,and the proceedings were as likrmonipuß and enjoyable as could be desire^.
