At Manaia the school committee have been quarelling with their headmaster, the Rev Mr Wilke, because the latter opened the Inspector's report which was addressed to the chairman. A resolution was passed asking the master if he had any explanation to make, and the chairman Inter on stated his determination to send m his resignation as the action of the muster had made the chairmanship a very unpleasant post. The settlers at Okoia (near Wanganni) are moving m the direction of establishing a jam factory. Several •of the residents hare already commenced preparing ground for the growing of small fruits, and everything seems m a fair way for the industry being started with a prospect of siiceess. It is intended to erect the necessary buildings alongside the present Dairy Factory, and utilize the boiler already there for heating purposes. There has been another movement m the butter market m consequence of advices from Sydney. We heard yesterday of a storekeeper offering B£d for 200 kegs, 100 to be delivered this week and 1(00 next week. — Hawera Star.,
