Otaki.
(FROM ODR OWN CORRESPONDENT., At the R.M . Court, Otaki, on Tuesday] the 15th inst., before W. H. Simcox, Esq., J.P. and John Kebbel, Esq., J.P. Harry A. Nicholls was charged on the information of Thomas Freeland, with having used abusive and insulting language to him. Defendant said he had worked for informant, and on wanting his money he had been told to go and fish for it, he then did say certain words. Fined 5s and costs. John Westland Marshall, described at a vocalist, appeared to answer a charge laid by the polioe, of brutally beating his step son, aged seven years. The boy's arm is supposed to be broken. Defen. dant asked for an adjournment till Januuary, when Mr Wardell, R.M., came up, as he believed there was a decided bias against him m Otaki. The boy having been examined by the Bench, it was decided to remand the case to Wellington for Thursday next, m order that medical evidence as to the boy's state be obtained without any delay. Constable Carr to took charge of the boy. crviL cases. Judgment Summonses : — Henry Masters v. William Webbar.— Claim 395. Adjourned for one month, defendant being sick. Ellen Lee v. Piripe te Ra.— Claim £5 2s 2d. Order made £2 to be paid at once, and balance m six weeks, m default 14 days m Wanganui Gaol. Mr W. N. Ward for plaintiff. *'. H.Cookerell v. J. H. Walker, ferryman at Ashurst. — Claim £8 15s 6d, for goods supplied. Judgment for £7 loa 6d, and 19s costs. James Lawrence y. Thomas Freeland. — Claim £5 5s 9d, for labor done. Judgment for £2 3s 9d, and 6s costs. Mr W. N. Ward for defendant. Benjamin Pepper v. E. J. Davies Watchmaker. — Claim £2 for rent. Judgment for amount and 7s costs. John Evans v. John Millar. — Claim £1 14s for labor. Judgment for amount and 8s costs. ." Mr W. N. Ward for defendant. N. L. Jenning, rate collector for Horowhenua County r. Hector McDonald.— . Claim £10 8s 4s, amount of dishonoured < cheque given m payment for rate. Judg- ! ment tor amount and £2 15s costs. Mr | W. N. Ward for Conncil. Harry A. Nicholl v. Thomas Freeland. — Claim £2 12s for work done. Judgment for amount and 6b coat. A number of cases were settled out of Court. During the proceedings two men wore | arrested for disorderly conduct and two I more ejected for not taking their hati off.
