(UNITED I'KKSH ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, Monday. I At the University College Council meeting a report of the Examiners recnium«nding the Sinclair and Gillies Scholarships beings awarded was adopted. The Sinclair Scholarship was awarded to b. E. Wilson, of Dunedin, and the Gillies Scholarship to T. 11. Green, of Avonside, Christchurch. Both are tenable for three years each, with a grant of £100 per annum. A protest was forwarded against the candidature of Green, but the Council considered it too vague, and it was consequently not sustained. The wages offered by Government for the unemployed is 4s 6d per diem. The Zealaiidia arrived from Frisco at 6 n.m. New Zealand passengers — W. D. Netlev, John Furtcuson, C. H. Hoskinir, T.H. Russell. At the poll of burt'esses, tho proposal to borrow £3000 for borough improve provements was carried by a large majority.
