The American Copyright League bus collected some striking extracts from well-known writers. Pew are better than the followiiiir, by Tom Hood, who headed it. Accordingly I wrote to my butcher, baker, and other tradesmen informing them that it was necessary for «he sake oi cheap literature and the interest of the public that they should furnish me with their commodities at v very trifling precentage aliovc cost price. It will be sufficient to quote the answer of .the butcher: — 'Sir, ivspectin' your note. Cheap literature be blowed! Butchers must live as well as otbov people — and, if so be you or the readin' public wauls to have meat at prime ci at' you must buy your own beastes-es, and kill yourselves.' "
