(per jnitbd press association.) Dunedin, Mouday. The Phoenix mine, at Skippers, has returned 300oz. of bar gold from 280 tonsj Auckland. Monday. The steamer Coptic sailed for Wellington ou Saturday night. A dispute arose between the Frozen Meat Company and the ship as to the condition of the lambs of which 2000 were to be shipped. The lambri had been frozen with the feet on, anil while the carcases were well frozen and m splendid condition, the wool on the legs was found to have a fusty smell, which was objectionable. It was finally resolved to leave the lambs m the refrigerator to be shipped by the next steamer after the feet had been removed, and to "substitute beef. * 170,0001 b of beef and mutton were placed on board, including 500 sheep, averaging 641 b. There are 33 cases of batter m excellent order. An old identity, Captain Philip Jones, formerly Commodore of the Oiroular Saw Fleet, died on Saturday. Mr Murchie, of Auckland, who recently visited Sky© to place before the Crofters the desirableness of emigrating' to New Zealand, reports that the Crofters have no desire to emigrate.
