The Cab-Siand.
The preparations for the cab-stand m the Square, opposite the Standard office, arp making rapid progress towards completion. The next formality will be the parade for special inspection ot vehicles. There will be Mr Goodison's brougham, Mr Jones' phaeton, Mr Davey's chaise, Mr Montague's tilbury, Mr Gardes' landau, Mr Partridge's cabriolet, Mr Kiuhlewhite'a clarence, Mr Miller's omnibus, Air Lucas' curricle, Mr Relfs fly, Mr Button's barouche, Mr Hopkins' shandredhan, Mr Billv-go-easy's handcare, and several other more or loss aristocratic equipages. We understand that the provisions of the bye-law recently published for general information are to | be rigidly enforced. Verily our city gets more like London every day. It is not yet certain on whom the post of inspector of vehicles is to be conferred, but we think Mr \V. Huines would efficiently and impartially fulfil the duties of the said appointment. Mr Hill and his men are making an excellent job of the stand, but the general impression seems to be that the wh^le thing v a farce, and might have been advantageously left m abeyance for the next half dozen years. A demonstration to the Cr who first moved m the matter is being arranged to take place on his return from Wellington. The carters affirm that the locality chosen for the cab stand is exceedingly inconvenient for them, and they consider t]ie restrictions imposed most vexatious.
