The City of Sydney, with the November Colonial mails, arrived: at San TVancisco on the Ist December, time-table date. iKVRttCAROTLL, Saturday. A meeting of creditors m the estate of James Mackintosh, farmer, of Greenfield, was held yesterday. Tbe statement shows tbe liabilities to be \£87.108, and thn assets are estimated as worth £103,898. The principal creditors are the British and New Zealand Mortgage and A. s;etioy Company (,£33,072), and the National Mortgage Company (.£50,262), both secured. The Assignee said that m the present state of the land market the surplus was purely visionary. . The afternoon train from the Bluff ran down a onw near Clifton, and the engine left the metals, which were tor i up for some distance. Seven wagons followed, and of these two we c completely wrecked. Traffic was delayed about two hours, but ho personal injuries were sustained. The l : ne is not fenced m parts, and as many suburban residents keep cows they very frequently get on the line and are killed* Waipawa, Saturday. A coroner's inquest was held on Thursday at Takapau on the body of tbe newly-born infant of Agnes i Moran. The evidence showed that the child had lived, but bad apparently been smothered m some way immediately after birth. Whether intentionally or not will be decided m the Supreme Court, as the verdict is considered to be something practically paramount to manslaughter. A man named Anderson, a woolscourer, was yesterday committed for trial on a charge of arson.
