The Parnellitcs are carrying most of the j Liberal and Conservative seats in i Ireland. • Lord John Manners, ! Postmaster-Oeneral,hasbeen elected, [end the Hon. Sidney Herbert has been rejected. The latest election returns show the -liberals to have gained 262 seats, the Conservatives 210, and the Parnellites 52. Mr Stephen Mason, the Liberal candidate, has been elected for Mid Lanark: ; and Mr Richard Lalor, Home Ituler, for Queen's County, and Sir Matthew W. Ridley have been defeated. Dec. 4. Mr William Sproston Caine has been defeated. Mr Gladstone considers that an alliance between the Conservatives and the Moderate Liberals is impossible. The Standard states that the chance of the Conservatives obtaining a majority is hopeless. (reuter's telegrams.} London, Dec. 4. The latest election {returns show that 263 Liberals, 213 Conservatives, and 54 Parnellites have been returned up to the present. Mr Joseph Chamberlain addressed a public meeting at Leicester last evening. In the course of his speech he referred to the probable/ state of parties in the new Parliament, and predicted fresh elections would take place at ho distant date after the assembling of Parliament.
