Fifteen applications have been received hv Sir Arthur Blyth, Agent- General for South Australia, for the position of Professor of i Mathematics at the University of Adelaide, rendered vacant by the resignation of Professor H. Lamb. (neuter's telegrams.) London, Dec. 1. The Australian mails, dated Melbourne, October 22, per Peninsular and Oriental Company's R.M.S. Clyde, were delivered here yesterday, via Brindisk The Shaw, Savill, and Albion j Company's s.s. Arawa (from Auckland, October 21; arrived at Plymouth yesterday morning. Her cargo of frozen meat is reported to be m good condition. The Orient Steam Navigation Company's R.M.S. John Elder arrived at Plymouth yesterday. Dec. 2. Arrived, to-day — Peninsular and Oriental Company's R.M.S. Peshawur, from Melbourne f October B^. Capetown, Nov. '.59. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's ss. Tainui sailed for New Zealand last night. St Petersburg, Dec. 2. An Imperial order has been pubv lished, m which His Majesty the j Czar eulogises the courage and activity displayed by the Bulgarian and Roumelian troops m the recent engagements m the Balkans.
