Notice has been received by the Wanganui Town Clerk that the sum of £375 has been forwarded through the Bank. This is an advance of 75 per cent on account of tho subsidy under the provisions of tlio Local-Bodies Finance and Powers Act 1885. The woodwork of the Wanganui Bridge was discovered to be on fire yestorday afternoon by Mr Harvey, who at once took prompt measures to put the fire out. It seems the manure from horses, cattle, and cheep is uever swept off the bridge butis allowed to lie heaped up at the side of the roadway and ferment until, as was the case yesterday afternoon, it burst out into flames, and threatened the destruction of the roadway of the bridge.
