A fanner m the south who became insolvent, applied for his discharge. It 'Transpired that he had been guilty of fraud by contracting debts a day or two before filing, and also of buying goods without paying and selling them again, and handing the proceeds to his relatives. Judge Ward summarily sentenced the debtor to three uionths' hard labour, instead ot as usual directing a prosecution m the Magistrate's Court. The debtor was considerably tak r en ; aback, beinej apparently confident of getting his discharge. ..'.._ Says the.Timaru Herald of November 20 .-—Yesterday', during the temporary absence of Mr Qliurch from Ms office on the - show ground (says our Oamaru morning contemporary), a lad climbed ■ over the upper sash of the window, and abstracted over 500 admission tickets, including members' tickets, Press tickets, and luncheon tickets. These were lavishly distributed among the children attendingtwo of the schools, the members* tickets- being filled ttr with the namea of the recipients. A large number „of the pilfered cards were given back to those to whom they were presented, but there still remain several unaccounted for. The committee have met the difficulty by changing the colonr of the tickets. The lad who worked all the mischief was but ten years of age, and evidently did not take the tickets with the object of making a profit by the transaction. .
