Manawatu Standard (PUBLISHED DAILY.) The Oldest Daily Newspaper on the West Coast. FRIDAY NOVEMBER 13, 1885. FROZEN MEAT FOR INDIA.
Tho Times of India hai the following remarks relative to the prospect of fiudinff iv that country a market for Australian f rossea meat :— " The rtcamer Duke of Westminster, having arrived m Calcutta with a cargo of frozen meat from Queensland for London, the Indian Daily News girts its readers a description of the proceßs followed m preserving meat. The Daily News refers to the possibilities of opening up a trade with India, and thinks that with regular itoain communication to Australia we 'would have Australian beef and Australian mutton m abundance, which would improve our tables, disrate our swiudling khanßamahs, and abolish the butchers, who, as a rule, well deserve the worst that can befall them.' Id Bombay, at all events, housekeepers would welcome a regular supply of tender, juicy beef m place of the wretched fibrous article which pauses current for beef m this city. Tiie cost of the meat would donbtless be greater, but there would not be the waste thut there is now, owing to the impossibility of eating any but tho choicest parts of a joint."
