FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
THe London correspondent of a Dunedin paper writes : — " l am sorryto say that the frozen meat trade is still m an unsatisfactory condition. The demand. i,s , brisk. enough, the re^ cent glut m the market has been relieved, but the prices tor frozen slieep seem' to stick be tvveeu fourpenoe aud fWepeuce, aud nothing seems to relieve that. The first eon«igmnent qf . the Auckland (New Zealand). Frozen Meat and storage Company came to market per Aorangi last week, m splendid condition, but unfortunately has encountered a depressed market. It is quoted at from 4d to 4£d ; while the Melbourne mutton by the Liguria," which has since arrived iv good condition, has brought only from 3f J to 4d per pound. It is to be feared, indeed, that, front whatever cause aris— ing, and probably most from the-itu- v pending rap m development of the South American frozen, meat trade, colonists are i\ard(y warranted m. looking* again! for the o^d and (5c 1 which were said to have been requisite for a paying trade, and that the hopes of the future must l»e based more on a decrease of the intermediate costs than on any material rise m the Home market."
