The magnets bell signalling^ arrangement, invented by Mr Fulton, ' was thoroughly tested on the Manawatu railway on Sunday aiiternoo'n. The cur- : rent was transmitted to and- from .the., break-van and engine through nine of the long coaches without the slightest hitch, and on the return journey, when an extra engine was attached to the end of the train, the break- vans signalling, apparatus was made , : intermediate by/ means of a switch and the. extra, engine the terminal station. The engine and break-van have a magnets call box and bell ; the wire is carried underneath w m; carriages, and connections between the various carriages is made by means of a jack switch near the coupling the. rails being used as the return circint. The signals used areone-long-ring " stop," two short fp^'- 'breaks pffj^.three-, for "breaks on." The are i^epeated back to^ ensure ..accuracy... ,The._ test on Sunday afternoon was most successful, and proved conclusively that the^ apparatus assisted materially in -the, working, and contributed greatly :_to the., safety of the line. — Post.
