"But your Worship," expostulated the bewildered official, "you have no power." "No power, ]ust ain't I though ?" shouted the thoroughly infuriated magistrate. " 'Ear what I say. Take 'im away and 'ang him," and subsiding into his seat, he was heard to add iv a tone of maudlin pathos, " and Lor' 'a mercy on his soul." Seeing that remonstrance was useless the constable removed the prisoner, and afterwards returned. "Taken 'irn away and 'ung him ?" asked the magistrate cheerfully. " Yes, your Worship."
