Palmerston North Lyceum.
QUARTERLY MEETING.
The first quarterly meeting- of tho above was held at the Bank Chambers last evening. The attendance was large and the programme of the evening varied and entertaining. The proceedings were opened by an address from the President followed by a piano tbrte solo and a duet by Messrs Hewitt and Person. Mrs Moore delivered an address on the necessity for combined action m the interests of Freetbought, and the promulgation of truth. Mr Beattie read Byron's Vision of Judgment. Mr T. U. Walton deli ve rod a short address entitled Christianity Impeached and Scepticism Triumphant. Mr T. King's rendering of the " Cardinal's Curse," was highly appreciated by the audience. Thu programme was largely. interspersed with music and .-singing; The quarterly balance sheet was read and adopted ; the latter showing- a satisfactory state of affairs, the "credit balance being £22 7s 'M . The members' ro.l|numb3r.s Gl. jSevdral new menjbers were, enrolled,, and also 12 new : subscribers to the Rationalist. A.meeting is.cbn.vqned for Thursday evening to ; taj;e.! steps fpr. the .immediate establishluent; of- .a. -Scientific and Treethought Library... The success of the musical arrangements must be credited -to the Misses A. Chamberlain and Mi Walton, who presided at the piano, and the vocal '.tailqnt-ta.Messfsllewitt aiid Person. A valuable piano has bjen purchased for : .usßijof the liyeeiiirt.
