Narrow Escape.
Mr Collinson lost a valuable horse on Saturday morning and very narrowly escaped with his own life. He was proceeding up No. 4 Line, .Fitzherbert, and the road being rather steep and winding he had considerable trouble with his h;>rses, one of which eventually pressed so much against the leader as to cause a stoppage. The dray at once started to back and very soon the whole turn out was m the gully alongside, a depth of about 12 fuet. With assistance the horses were extricated after smno time had elapsed, and a start made to return leading the hor.se which appeared most hurt, the other following. Tl'iej' had not proceeded far, however, before the horse Collinson was leading dropped and almost immediately expired. The animal was a valuable one and will be a serious loss to its owner. It was almost a miracle that the latter did not receive serious injuries m the upset, but happily he escaped almost entirely without hurt.
