Turakina Items.
(Corrosnondcnt Wangamii Herabl.) On Friday night a concert was given by the Turakina amateurs m conjunction with some of the Marton amateurs, and the Marton Temperance Band, m aid of the funds of the English Church. A good house was secured, and after the concert, a dance was hell, about twenty couples remaining. The Roy. Mr Pa rice's and Mr Kiernan supplied the music. On Sunday morning; there was quite a sensation among the Maoris across the river. A young Maori who is subject to asthma took ill and swooned away. As he did not come to after the usual interval his brother felt his pulse and not perceiving any movement, said that he was dead. The Maoris thereupon set up a tanrji but m the midst of their lamenting the apparently dead man returned to life. Mr Clark, while driving one of Iteid & Gray's disc harrows the other day, had a narrow escape from an accident. The seat broke and pricipitated him upon the discs, but fortunately he received nothing more serious than a fright.
