PROGRESS OF BILLS, At midnight, progress was reported on the Land Bill, to enable an order that a message from the Legislative Council might be received. The amendment was made m the Christ College Bill, and Distress Bill. The House again went into Committee on the Land Bill. — A new clause was introduced fixing minimum of improvements. The clause provided for 50 per cent, being expended m each of the first two years, and ten per cent, per year, for four years, Amount was altered to 10 per cent, for the two first two years, and the clause passed. Mr Soobie McKenzie moved a new Clause, extended h\ the time for payment by deferred -payment settlers, but it was lost on the voices. Mr Guiness moved a new Clause, making the perpetual leasing system apply to rural and town lands negatived. In appendix C relating to lands m Nelson, Mr Hiirsthousc moved an amendment to illuminate that a portion which provided that the Land Board should first sanction the expenditure of rents m opening up the lands. Agreed to. The remaining appendices were agreed to without alteration. The Bill was reported with amend- . ments read third time, and passed. The House rose ,at 3 a.m.
