Mr Larnach moved the committal of the Mines Act 1877 Amendment Bill. Mr Bolleston asked how. was it that the reyeniie of the gold district had to be recouped if the duty be abolished and license fees reduced. Mr Larnach said that the Gold Duty Abolition Act came before the House at a later period. With regard to the miners licenses, etc., he said that whilq travelling through the "West Coast, the ereat cry was that the fees were too high. The Government had, therefore, thought they should take cognizance of therepreimtations. Tlio House went into committee, and the Bill was agreed to with slight amendments and reported.
