Replying to questions, it was stated the total cost of the Wdliugtou Exhibition, deducting the amount for the sale of buildings and the admission money, would be between £3000 and £4000; The total cost of the music would be MOW. PUBLIC WORKS AMENDMENT. Mr Richardson moved the second reading: of the Public Works Amendment Bill. He explained that the bill was to enable the Government to take laud for the creation of. fortifications m various parts of the country. After considerable discussion the second readiug was agratd to. . Wedne«day. PROGRESS OF BILLS. The Public Works Act Amendment Bill was agreed to without amendment. The House went into coiriinittee on the Charitable Aid. Bill, on clause 6. Sir Julius Yogel moved ah' amendment —-That a borough or county council might elect, a member instead of tint member being a county chairman or mayor. After a brief discussion the clause was postponed. In clause 20 with regard to the election of trustees, and after discussion the whole portion of the clause was struck out and clause amended to read as follows — "Tliut incorporated institutions should bo governed by not less than six nor more than nine trustees, to be elected by contributors for time being to such institutions together with hot not more than five other trustees, appointed by local authorities. • . Progress was reported, and the House rose at 2 a,m. .
