'"■■'■ '-'■■{<■ "The 'last witness was cross-examined by Mr Hankins, re-examiiied by Mr Pitzhßrbert, and examined by His Honor. After, wliiich Bnama^Lousia Elkins, also gave evidence. . •_ Aprons produced are my sister. After my sister told me she had buried the child, rinformed the police. I saw the i police dig tip the child. I did not ex-. ' aniine the cliild.^ The police showed me ii|ie ! aprdns produced. Sister told me the child was born on Tuißsday morning. Cross examined by Mr Hankins : I spoke to Dr Kbckstrow, before complaining ■ and he advised me to see the : jloiice. Francis Me Anulty, constable stationed at Fo,xton : Went with Detective . Ben-' jamin to Mrß Elkin's house. Saw accused, there aid also last witness, and' after speaking to her went to the garden found a child buried m the centre of a" flower-bed^ the last witness w*<? present. The body was wrapped m clothes produced. After child was found saw accused. She told Detective Benjamin she had a child on the previous- Tuesday : fct r 8 o'clock.. She said nobody knew anything about it. It was. dead, that ahe kept itin the room all day and buried it m the evening. She was subsequently arrested by Detective Benjamin who took charge of child. Cross examined by Mr Hankins : Prisoner's "sister came to me and informed about child. # . Lionel Benjamin : lam member, of the Detective Force. On 28th June last went to Elkin's House and saw acensed. Went into the garden and found body of a new born child buried m the garden. She told- me she had been delivered of a child, she was quite open about it. I tpok body ( to Dr Macintire at Palroerstpn'."'North* who held a post mortem on it.. John Henry Leigh .Macintire and Frank Beeves also gave evidence. After Mr Fitzherbert bad- replied and the Judge summed upbriefly.the jury retired, and m about half an hour returned a-verdict of Not Guilty. . .Court then adjourned until 2 o'clock.
