Lieutenant Jonning's mission was a, complete success. , After many hardships, travelling as a scientific trader, being fired at and pursued, he reached within five mirches of Herat, encountering only GO miles of desert. Ho has bean warmly eulogised by Sir Donald Stewart for the very successful result of his mission. In the event of war tho Russians could be attacked on their flank.
