A Dangerous Practice.
What might have resulted m a doublo fatal accident occurred here last evening shortly, after ni»6 o'clock. Mr Wi Knbx about that time was walking past the Bank Cliainbers, ; >vhen a horse furiously ridden bj' some .one. camp behind and before he had time to get out of tho way he was throw* to the ground, and the horse with its reckless rid^r continued its mad career ahead and turning into Fitzhprbert-strect came accross Messrs Gardes and Tate, who were on their way. home. These two gentlemen went to either side of the road to leave a wide berth for the excilaMa horseman* but even with this precaution did not escape, for on Hearing them the rider suddenly swerved to 'oiie side bringing ' the horse full sido up -against Mr Tate, and throwing hi;n heayily to the ground. ' l - Mr Gardes rushed over to his companion whom he found lying insensible and bleediirg p'rofusly from cuts on the head. • Mr Gardes calling but, brought Mr West ! on the scene, and Mr Stewart also just then came- along and with their .assistance the untortunate man was brought to and led home. We have not been ; able to ascertain to-day of the nature of Mr Tates injuries, but are informed that Mr Enox has had to ue a crutch and may possibly be laid up for a considerable time with a- sprained ankle.
