IRISH AFFAIRS.
The Pope ha:l a two hours' conference with the Irish' bishops -at tlie Vatican on: the 25th May, during which he lectured; them strongly m regard to their animosity to England Archbishop Croke returned to Dublin from Borne on the 3rd June. Ho deprecated _jany_ political manifestation. An address, haying declared that lie had vindicated the cause of the Irish people at B'tinp, and had stood firm to faith and fatherland, tho Archbishop m reply advised singers not to put themselves m the power of so-called, but really sham friends of law and order. Such addresses, he said, were 'useful as showing the nnity of the priests and people. He was anxious to see this old land restored to its pristine grand .state, Orangeistn broken down, and all classes working loyally together. . The fund now being raised m Ireland for the benefii of James Stephen, exFenian head centre, recently expelled from France, amounts to .£7OOO. When the bill is introduced m Parliament as is proposed, to provide a Boyal residence m Ireland for young Prince Victor of Wales, it will be opposed by the Parnellites on the ground that Ire-, land has. more than enough of Viceregal pagentry now m Earl Spencer's Court at Dublin Castle.
