At the adjourned meeting of the above held last evening there were present Messrs Hawkins, Wray, Venn, Whitehead, Rosb, Park, Osborne, Kerslake. and Hamilton. Mr Walton proposed that Mr Park take the chair, seconded by Mr Whitehead. Minutes read and confirmed. Mr Walton reported having m compliance with Mr Hawkins' resolution canvassed the town aa far as Terrace End. Mr Flyger at that end of the town was the only refusal he had receivod. He was quite satisfiod with the existing tariff and everything- else. Mr Walton said he had received support to theexten of £71, 154, and nearly all business houses; he expected that m tho Manawatu there would be received support to the extent of £100,000. He had written to Feilding on Friday informing Mr Sandilands of his success here but he had not yet received any reply. Resolved— That Mr Walton's repart be received: The Chairman stated there was very little to do that evening further than receive Mr Walton's canvass report and forward same to Feilding. Most of tha Insurance Agents m the town had sup- . ported the movement. , -. Mr Whitehead suggested that tenders should be callad for the acceptance of the offer of the business m the district. Mr Hawkins suggested that report be forwarded to Feilding and that offices not represanted here might be written to and asked to take the business ; the speaker mentioned the Sun, Phoenix, and other offices. Mr Eadeß : At last meeting m Feilding it had been mentioned that the Phoenix belonged to the tariff and that the "Sun " had risks m this district ; the Australian Alliance did no business here. Mr Hawkins then said he would withdraw his remarks as to the other two offices and propose that the Australian Alliance he treated with. Mr Eades remarked that the decision eorne to m Feildingj was that the Committees m Palmerston, Feilding, Fox- . ton, and Aahurst should prepare a report showing how much insurance they would be prepared to offer to an outside Company for the transfer of bttsiness. Mr Whitehead stated that m Wellington through an agitation of this kind the tariff had been reduced from 40 to 50 per oent. Mr Eades said m Wangantii it had been reduced through opposition of the same kind by far more. Mr Ross stated that when the Feilding delegate was here at last meeting no such proposition as the one to give the Allian6e the business, excluding all other offices, waa made. He would support the suggestion to call for tenders and that a Committee then deal with the matter. Mr Eadea said that as far as he understood the minutes, the Palmerston meeting had decided to co-operate with Feilding m whatever action was taken. Mr Hawkins then moved that a report be forwarded by the Hon. Secretary to the Feilding Association of the work done here, and that they be requested to convene a meeting at which a delegate should attend from Palmerston for the purpose of considering the course most advisable to pursuo before taking final action m the matfer. Saconded by Mr Ro3S and carried unanimously. Mr Whitohead proposed that Mr Walton should be authoiisod to call a moeting after having forwarded this report to Feilding, at which it would be arranged that tho Hon. Secretary and Chairman should be delegates to attend the Feilding j meeting. Seconded by Mr Hawkins and carried. Mr Whitehead mentioned that the expenses of the agitation had not been settled yet. > . The Chairman informed Mr Whitehead that this. matter had been definitely ' arranged at the last mooting, the insurers J interested bearing any expense. ftf r Hawkins having moved a voto of thanks to the Chair the proceedings terminated.
