{F.VITED PR-8S ASSOCIATION.) New Plymouth, Wednesday. Mr Samuel, M.H.R., leaves for Wellington by the steamer to-day. He has had a presentation of a case o£ apples from To Whiti, that chief forwarding them as a proof of goodwill. Major Atkinson addressed a very large large meeting here last night. He went over much the same ground as at previous meetings, but with, reference to immigration lie said he regretted that the system of nominated immigrants had ! beon suspended, and thought it. a great mistake. He was quite prepared to support a vote for that purpose, but doubted ; whether it would be wise to go further, tie thought that the direct steamer.-} were good advertising mediums, and if they pould be subsidised so as to get the passage money reduced to about the same amount as a passage from England to America they would soon divert the stream of immigration to this Colony.
