; ; ; : Ending of the;. bqpy, •The. body ,of the. unfortunate woman, Mrs Ad amson, supposed to have drowned herself m the Wanganui river, waf found yesterday "morning hanging on to the staging m front of the shed. It hod evidently been caught m an eddy and had been thrown up there, but to all appearances, would not have remained there long.- The Herald says that the age of the deceased, judging hy her appearance, must have... been about 35. She had come from the West Coast. of the othgf- Island, from whence her present Husband, Peter Adamsorj, also came. They- do not appear to h?,ve been married many years, as* the child loft behind is only a step-child of Mr Adamson's. From what we can le&rn the couple had had quarrels before, Mrs Adamson having OHC6 before come tc town on this account. She appeared to be not altogether rieht :n >har head on this occasion, dad this doubtless led to the rash act by which she terminated her life. -Before taking the fatal leap, she handed a travelling bag, witb. some twenty-three or.twenty-four shillings m it, and her dolman to the child, telling her to give the money to her father. She then leapt over. The little girl commenced to cry, and her sobs attracted the attention of Mr Keith, who questioned the little one for some time -without avail, as she could not tell him what was the matter. At length she said that her mother had jumped into the river, and Mr Keith at ones asked her to show him the place. At first the child exhibited some reluct-ance-to go, but eventually led him to the wharf's edge* where Mr Keith says that he fancied he saw something moving m the waiter, but it was so dark that he could not b<£stire about it. The grapnels* were put' intb ! use by Messrs Keith. Jackson, Cole and others, but having no boate nothing could be idone.
