Fire Insurance.

A very important' meeting of influential insurers was held at Mr Bray's office Feiiaing,,last week, the object of which was to take steps towards obtaining a reduction of the, present exorbitant rates charged as premiums by the Insurance Companies. A number of important resolutions bearing on the question were passed, and Mr J. C. Thompson was appointed. delegate to visit Palmerston, Halcombe, Foxton, and Sandon, to confer with insurers who will be invited to assemble in these several centres in order that the .movement may be united and universal at the same time in the whole *■ district. The difference between the rates charged on tlie north and south sides of the Rangitikei is very great. It was shown that in Feilding in certain cases 3,7s Git per cent, is charged, while only 22r 6d per cent, is charged for the same description of fire risk in Bulls.— Star. - :
