Caution to Borough Council. lors.

A correspondent in Wauganui informs the Post that the Timms-Spurdle case has • been finally settled by the defendant paying to the plaintiff the amount of the lines inflicted. It will be remembered that the defendant, a member of the Borough Council of Wanganui, was fined £100 for doing work for the Corporation, that he appealed, that the conviction was affirmed, and that the Government afterwards remitted the fine. Our correspondent states' that the plaintiff having threatened to appeal to Parliament against what was deemed a most undue exercise of political power, the defendant has paid the amount rather than have the matter further ventilated* Probably, however, the subject will yet be brought before Parliament. The Wanicanut papers have not mentioned the settlement.
