St. Patricks College.
St. Patrick's College, Wellington, was opened on Monday for the reception of pupils, of whom upwards of twenty-five, the majority of them being day scholars, presented themselves. Beyond the talking of the names and classifying the students, nothing was done, the commencement of the real work of the College being deferred till next day. A. number of boys from various parts of the colony are expected to arrive within the ensuing lew days, but the rev. rector does not anticipate having more than 50 to 60 scholars until after the Christmas recess. The formal opening ceremony has been deferred till the return from Borne of Bishop Eedwood, and will it is anticipated, take place either m December or February next. At present the teaching staff is confined to the rector, the Rev. Felix Joseph Waiters, S.M., and four resident professors belonging to the Marist Brotherhood. A number of lay visiting masters have been engage I, and, as occasion requires, additional resident masters will be secured. The Bey. F. J. Watters, the rector, who comes trom the Dublin University School, brings with him the highest testimonials as a professor of teaching. — Wellington paper.
