Singular Accident.
"\V"e- regret to learn that Mr Adsett, of .Fe-ildinjr, his suHl-inid a heavy loss, b y the i 'wholesale destruction of his bullocks. It that on Tuesday afternoon a team Jof twelve bullocks under the carge of .John Pinvson, were working m the bush, while some men were felling a large | white pine tree, 3ft. Gin. m diameter. Just when the tree was on the point of falling, a puff of wind sent it backwards, and it fall, crashing down npon }the top of the team, killing six of the animals and injuring two others. "Pawson, wfco was cutting a track close by, on hearing^ the axemen call out, rushed to the bullocks, and tried to get them, away, but coiild not do. so iv time. Indeed^ tie had himself a narrow escape -from instantaneous death. Had it not been for the presence of mind .of a man named Stewart, m putting a maul into the scarf of the tree, and thus slightly altering the direction of the falling' tree, he must certainly have been crushed to death. Mr Adsett's loss is a serious one, tts the bullocks killed wore the most valuable m tho team, and cannot easily be replaced. — Marton paper.
