CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.
(UNITED PRtSS Ai J CUT ION. ) ' ' * Chmstcwhc^ Monday. , Tlie annual meeting of the G.J.O. was held this afternoon, and was largely attended. The treasurer, Mr G. G. Stead m his^ report, stated that, notwithstanding the large amount spent this year m improvements, and the great increase m stakes, the financial position of the Club was satisfactory; £9264 had been paid m stakes during the past season, against £7610 and £6676 m the two preceding years. The total receipts were £11,123 excluding .£soo for insurance on the stand burnt down, against £11,243 for 1884. The assets of the Club were estimated at £9384, and exceeded tho liabilities by £8970. The Committee were instructed to revise the- rules for consideration by a special meeting. This was done. The mover (Mr Stead), stated, with a yiew to prevent th'e. blackmailing on the drawers of sweeps, to provide more stringent rides for the control of jockeys, and m connection with the naming of horses. Amongst the new members elected was. Sir . J. Vbgel.
