(UNITED PRKSS ASSOCIATION.) Hkeftok, Sunday. In the Magistrate's Court on Saturday Walter Wiliiama, chairman of the InanOguhua Council, was charged on the information of a ratepayer of the county with a breach of "the 73 section of the 11 Counties Act, 1876 " m having voted on a motion awarding himself a salary of £200 per annum. The chairman gave both his original and casting vote for the motion, and facta were not denied* The magistrate ruled that the chairman, m so acting, had rendered himself liable to a penalty provided for councillors voting upon motions m which they have any interest apart from any interest m common with the public, and fined the defendant five gnineas,and declared his seat for the riding of Antoneas vacant.
