On the War Path.

f Wei liugton Paper.]

An incident occurred m the neigh « hood of Newtowu ou the morning of Good Friday last which will prohably result m litigation. It appears that ...during the small hour* of the morning niHiitioned. a gentleman who is well known m Wellington business circles, and who is a commission agent, was awakened by his wife, who, amidst great fear and twmblius;, told her hunhand she thought there were burglars m the house. Now the gentleman m question has a sort of quasi-military reputation, and therefore he lost no time m leaviug bia bed and instituting a search for the intruder, carryiug iv his hand a loaded revolver. He pioceeded cautiously through the house, amd perceived no indications bt the burglarious presence until he reached the kitnhon. Here he distinctly heard someone moving about; ami opening a- trapdoor which gave him a view of the wa-Huhouae, there m the grey light of the morning, he observed forms I Hitting" about the, tubs. Not for more than an instant did the gentleman pause, but, lifting his revolver, ho tired into the Washhonse, and immediately closed the trap-door. Following quick upon the noise ok the shot loud shrieks filled the washhouse; and presently, the Hcreams having subsided, a youthful voice cried tremulously, " please, sir, we're ouly th« baker boys bringing the buns. You said you'd h»ave a kit for us, and wore looking, for it." Fortunately the baker boys wore not hurt, ntid comforted by the roffoction that he had maintained himself as an invaded RngHshiiiun should do, the master of the house went back to his bi'tl. But the strangest part of the atTuir is that the mother of the tods erhiliits a tendency to resont the shooting of (or at) her lads, and probably the matter will shortly be brought before a Oouit of law.
