FISH CULTURE.
The Dunedin ffurnl t says :- — We import yearly about 8000 gallons of cod-liver oil," of the value of .£2500. Two-thirds of the supply cdme»from Britain and one- third from the United States. If its manufacture was added to our local industries, we might become exporters instead of importers. For a maritime country like New Zealand, with waters teeming with fish, to be importing anything m tiie shape of preserved fish for cod-liver oil is not creditable. If our red cod are not the sort, then our Acclimatisation Societies must set to work and cultivate the right sort* Fish-culture can be carried to any extent now-a-days. Last year the Association for the Promotion of Norwegian Fisheries hatched 7,000,---000 fish, chiefly cod and haddocks, at their establishment at Ardal, m the Christiana tiord, and this winter, between 5,000,000 more will probably be turned out.
