A report is current that a British commission will proceed shortly to Herat to erect fortifications there, the consent of the Anuler naving been obtained. The report, however, lacks official confirmation at present. It is stated m some quarters that an agent has been appointed by the Russian Ciovemment m Calcutta. Montukal, May 10. A large and enthusiastic meeting was held here yesterday to advocate the Federation of the Empire and a branch of the Federation League was established m the city. 1,/.
