All About a Whip.
(UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Invehcabgill, May 1. The Court was occupied all day with a case arising out of the loss of a common dray whip. Stuck, a fanner near Riverton, lost a whip, which one of las children said he identified some weeks ago m the corner of the store of Wong Chong/ Chinese merchant, doing business m Canton, Dunedin, and on the goldfields. Stuck went to the store and claimed the whip. The Chinaman said he believed it belonged to his firm, and on asking the packer who used" the whip, he said he had used fy for five months. Stuck still insisted that the whip was Ins, and got a warrant on which the Chinaman was locked up, and brought before the Resident Magistrate who dismissed the case,. Wong Chong sought to recover JE2SO for malicious prosecution. Judgment was given for £25 and costs, his Honor remarking that he agreed with plaintiff's counsel, that defendant would not have dared do the same tiling to a European. It appeared that the whips of both parties were bought m the same shop at about the same time, and from the same lot.
