(UNITED PRESS ALBOCIATION. ) Christchurch, April 30. The defence works at Lyttelton are approaching completion. The 64-pounder at Middle Bluff will soon be mounted ; and, weather permitting, the 7-ton gun at the battery will be up m a few days. Blenheim, April 80. The Defence Minister has declined to accept the services ot the proposed Wairau Cavalry, on the ground that the stock of arms m store is limited, and not equal to arming those corps which are urgently required.
