The Lumpers' Union have decided to sustain any action taken by the Seamen's Union. , A fresh Volunteer corps is being formed. April 29. Rewi, the great Ngatimaniapoto chief, has be*n taking great interest m the expected war. He writes the press suggesting that the Auckland torpedo boat should be called, the Araiti Uru, after the Taniwha, a sea-god, who formerly guarded those waters. Three months ago tho Harbour Board, being dissatisfied with their engineer, gave him six mouths' notice. At a meeting yesterday it transpired that he had been requested to furnish two trivial reports, and excused himself because he had not the time. The Board gave him leave of absence to the end of the term, and intend appointing a new engineer at once. Mastertont, April 28. An inquiry was commenced before Mr G. B. Davy, R.M., to-day, into the circumstances surrounding the removal and resignation of Sheep Inspector Sutton. "Westpobp, April 28. The Mokihinui Coal Company, whose works are situated 25 miles north of West port, at Mokihinui River, have accepted tenders for various works, including the formation of a railway line to connect the mine with the port. The Directors expect to bo shipping coal iv July next. The coal is of splendid quality. The statutory public meeting approved by an overwhelming majority of the proposal of the Borough Council to borrow £8000 for the}eßtablishment of gasworks m the borough.
