The rebels and Batouche Indians under Louis Reil have been completely routed by the Canadian forces, alter seven hours' fighting. Mr Murray Smith, Agent-General for Victoria, writing to the Times, deprecates Lord Carnarvon's assumption that tho omission of clause 31 from the' Federation Enabling Bill, providing for the withdrawal of a Colony, would postpone Federation. The New South Wales Government are insisting on the retention of clause 31. The consecration ceremony of Rev. William Webber, recently appointed Bishop of Brisbane, will be performed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, assisted by the Bishops of London and Victoria. The wheat market is improving, and prices are quoted at from sixpence to one shilling higher, The town of Panama, which has been virtually m a state of siege for some time past, has been occupied by the American Government, vrho have caused the arrest of tho rebel leader. The French Government . have protested against the action ot America. Later. The American Government have withdrawn from the occupation of Panama. (REUTERS' TELEGRAMS.) London, April 29.
